Ashwagandha is one of the most powerful herbs in Ayurveda. It has long been used in Rasayana – the medicine for rejuvenation. Ashwagandha is an adaptogen which means it rejuvenates the entire system, especially the endocrine and immune systems. Adaptogens support an organism’s ability to cope with stress effectively, thereby conserving energy. Ashwagandha significantly counteracts stress and improves immunomodulation, in addition to improving testosterone levels and physical performance of sedentary people. It also calms overactive nerves which allows for easy and restful sleep during the night. Ashwagandha, an emerging ingredient in the health food industry throughout the world, offers a range of health benefits. Unfortunately, on the downside, it becomes less active in an acidic medium. When ingested in its naked form it interacts with stomach acid and gets destroyed within a short time span. This denies the human body of its many benefits.
